About TBI
Shalom Our Rabbi, Officers, Board of Directors, and Staff welcome you to the fellowship of our Temple Family. We have developed this website to acquaint you with the activities and opportunities that await you as a member of our congregation. We hope that you will find these inspiring and satisfying, and that you, your family and friends will come to look upon Temple Beth Israel of Sunrise, Florida ("TBI") as your spiritual home. Our Rabbi Rabbi Marcelo Bater joined Temple Beth Israel on September 1, 2007 as our new, full-time spiritual leader. Rabbi Bater was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he studied at Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano. For Rabbi Bater's last year of study, he moved to Jerusalem to attend Machon Schecter. Following his ordination, he served as Rabbi of Beth Israel Synagogue in Aruba. Rabbi Bater has also served as Executive Director of the Union of Jewish Congregations of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Rabbi Bater is married to Sonia Grunblatt. They have a daughter, Gali Leah, a son, Benjamin Simon, and a brand-new second son -- Tommy David. We at Temple Beth Israel are thrilled to have this young, charismatic, and dynamic Rabbi, along with his family, in our Temple family.
Howard Fleischer, who grew up in the Chicago area, joined TBI in July, 2010 as our synagogue's Executive Director. He is a Business-Management graduate of National-Louis University and has previously served in the Executive Director role within Beth Torah of North Miami Beach, FL, Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El of Plantation, FL and Temple Sinai of Hollywood, FL.
We welcome Howard to Temple Beth Israel and know that he will do his best to ensure that TBI, Broward County's premier Conservative synagogue, will grow and flourish! Our High Holy Days Cantor Natalia Arazi, became (in 2000) the first woman to graduate with a Cantorial Degree from "Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano Marshall T. Mayer.
Natalia presently serves as cantor of Temple Bet Am in Buenos Aires and is a member of the Association of Cantors "Cantorlat". She is married to Marcelo Kupferberg and they have two sons, Ezequiel and Matias. We are very happy to again have Cantor Natalia Arazi here as our High Holy Day cantor!
